Episode 2 mr. sunshine (2018 tv series)

Episode 2 mr. sunshine (2018 tv series)
Episode 2 begins with Ae Shin reading the newspaper hidden behind her book and tells: "This is a turbulent time, when yesterday is far away, today is unknown, and tomorrow is feared. We all, in our own way, experience Joseon's tumultuous.”

Ae Shin's crazy cousin searched through Ae Shin's room looking for accessories. She’s frustrated because she can not find any jewelry, considering how often Ae Shin met the saleswoman. She searched through the blanket and hit the jackpot: Ae Shin's newspaper collection. She eagerly escapes to report it to her grandfather. When Ae Shin returns to her room. Ae Shin looks at her maid shyly and speculates that she will be in trouble due to the newspaper, and her maid makes a scene. The grandfather scolded Ae Shin for wanting to know about the world, and her spiteful cousin fanned the flames by asking what a girl might do with such a newspaper. Ae Shin's aunt tries to fix the situation and asks Ae Shin to apologize. When she apologizes, her grandfather does not accept it. He does not believe that she really repents, so as a punishment, he bans all outside visitors and orders Ae Shin to read and write down all the Confucian texts. Throughout the day and night, Ae Shin writes the text while the servant uses a stick. As Ae Shin stubbornly continues to write, the sheets are scattered all over her room. The next morning, Ae Shin finally finishes and heads to her grandfather for her morning greeting
Ae Shin gives the written texts to him, who doubts that Ae Shin will not retreat once. He warned her by linking the death of Queen Min's first wife (King Gojong) to her involvement in the king's business and state affairs. Ae Shin interprets the example to convey how Joseon changed, but her grandfather believes that Joseon is collapsing. Ae Shin insists thats he will only read the newspaper once a month, because even the lower classes are learning new knowledge today. She wanted to be a useful woman, but her grandfather would not let her. However, Ae Shin defies his orders and argues that she will read the newspaper.
Ae Shin explains that she must know any events in the outside world because the Western world infiltrated Joseon, but her grandfather said that the matter was for kings and government. Even if there is no government, he will not let Ae Shin get involved in Joseon's fate, especially after losing his sons. He wants Ae Shin to marry and live a beautiful life, but she says that she's better off dead than doing that. He was surprised by her response, but stood on the ground, he said, "Then go die." Over the next four days Ae Shin refuses to eat anything and lies in her bed as a protest to her grandfather. Another maid reported this to his her grandfather, but he remained unaffected and asked for meat for dinner that night.
That night, a humble man visited the grandfather. At dinner, he deplored that Joseon had been the target of impudence, the statesman was no different than the traitor, and the scholars had lost their way. He knows that Ae Shin, like his father, can respond to this turmoil by becoming a resistance fighter. He tries to keep her away from that path, but if it becomes an inevitable destiny, he wonders, do they have to teach her a way of life?. Grandfather had lost two children and he did not want to lose his granddaughter. He asks, "I will not ask you to protect him. But please teach her to protect herself.”  the humble man agreed to do this, and he received a drink from grandfather. As he reaches for the cup, there is a scar on his right hand. And through flashbacks, we find that this humble man is Seung Goo, a teenage boy who lost his father in battle against America.
Seung Goo directs Ae Shin to the dangerous mountain road, and she is out of breath by the time they reach their basecamp. She thinks that her grandfather hired Seung Goo to kill her, but he explains that grandfather asked him to teach her how to shoot a gun. She introduces herself as her teacher from now on and firmly points out that she uses honorific titles when greeting her. He is very serious about the title of honor, because Ae Shin is struggling to add the right suffix to his sentences.
Ae Shin's training begins by climbing the mountain, which goes from crawling up and down completely out of breath until she runs without sweating. She gets very good until finally reaches the top before Seung Goo, and she asks when all this mountain climbing will end. Seung Goo explains that once you shoot the gun, your location is open, and you have to run. And now she's mastering the ascent, he throws a gun for shooting lessons
As time passes, she can hit the potter with her shot. One day, as she practiced, she heard a voice from behind and immediately turned around with her gun aimed at the source. It was Seung Goo, but he's back with a bad wound on his arm. When she tends to treat him, he explains that it comes from a big boar, but Ae Shin does not quite believe it because she's already using that excuse when she returns with a sprained ankle. Seung Goo looks around shyly, but Ae Shin does not care what he does to get these wounds - he just tells him not to die. She added that if she asked him to join whatever she was doing, she was ready to accept it. That's why she practiced nonstop. Seung Goo suggests alternative methods, such as spreading information through newspapers or drugs, but Ae Shin illustrates the urgency of the situation: "The Queen is killed, and the king has fled to the Russian embassy, where he appeals to other countries to help. the western states to interfere with Joseon's affairs. The words have no strength I want to be a shooter". Seung Goo tells her to practice more and that she should be able to hit five of five pots.

A boy ran across the streets with a special edition of the newspaper. Choon Shik, the smartest slave hunter who turns into the pawnbroker, takes the newspaper from Il-shik. This is news about the Spanish-American war.
Ae Shin continues to practice using the guns, and she can almost hit the fifth pot from a further distance. She focused and determined to improve her skills.

It was 1898, and the Battle of El Caney occurred in Cuba during the Spanish-American war. America jumped into Spanish territory, and Joseon-American army, Eugene was one of the American troops. He aggressively shoots the enemy and saves Kyle, his boss, from the gutter and helps him get back from battle.
Back to the first time we were introduced to Eugene, at the academy and at a meeting with President Theodore Roosevelt. Eugene did a research on Joseon, saw a photo of Wan Ik with an American and then a map of the peninsula. Kyle joined him and commented on how Eugene would probably feel more common around people who look like him in Joseon. Eugene politely disagrees. Kyle handed Eugene a picture of Logan Taylor, who previously worked in Japan and is now working as a foreign affairs adviser at Joseon. But he sold information about Joseon to Japan. It was only to Eugene that if they succeeded with this operation, America would receive credit, but if they failed, Joseon would be blamed. He realized that's why he was chosen for this task. As Eugene packed up his things, he paused to look at the ornament, which caused his mother to lose her life. He was distracted by a Japanese friend, who first tried to speak English but soon switched to Japan. Speaking of the Joseon man in New York, a friend wonders if Joseon is better now, but Eugene thinks that those people might hate Joseon. His friend invited Eugene to visit Tokyo, which he thought was more luxurious than Joseon.
Ae Shin has returned to her grandfather's house, and when she is out for a walk, she is greeted by an old friend whom she does not remember. Fortunately, the waiter remembered it, and they awkwardly exchanged regards. The friend is accompanied by an American woman who is her English teacher, and Ae Shin politely asks why someone is learning English. She wondered if her friend might want to join the public service.
Her friend is shyly admitting that she is not interested in public service - on the contrary, she is interested in "love," which she says in English. Ae Shin stares at her blankly, clearly not understanding what the word "love" is. In her room, Ae Shin wonders what "love" is - she knows it's good because it's somehow better than public service. His maid tells her that she can have this "love" or whatever she wants. But she is curious about "love" that her friend place it higher than the public service.

Eugene arrived at the Glory Hotel, where Logan Taylor and the Joseon minister (previously seen in the royal court as Daewongun's right hand) discussed in Japanese how American technical skills in installing street lamps had been advanced Joseon. The  Minister offered to express his gratitude that evening at a famous geisha house. Eugene eavesdropped on the conversation and made notes about this location. Logan and Joseon ministers arrive at the geisha house, where Logan continues to boast about the American technology that surrounds it. A geisha opens a window to let the smoke out, and across the street, Ae Shin directs her gun at his target. She waited for the right moment, and then a bullet pierced Logan's head. But it's not from Ae Shin gun. She looked around and saw a man running from the scene on the roof. Ae Shin escapes from the scene.  The man, Eugene, sees his company, and they chase each other, jumping from roof to roof. Then, Eugene stopped and pointed his gun at Ae Shin, who did the same. Their faces were closed, but they stared at each other, wondering, "One goal, two shooters. Could this be a friend?” Before they can get involved, they hear their pursuers nearby and run in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile, a group of people waited on the bridge, shivering with cold. A man asks his friend if he hears a gunshot, but his friend just assumes that it is an electric noise. They all wait to see the street lights turn on as the pursuers pass through the crowd, looking for the shooters. Eugene and Ae Shin have turned back to their normal clothes, and they pass each other on the street. But they both stopped a few steps after passing each other with the smell of gunpowder. "The man," she thought. "That woman ... woman?" He wondered. Then they turn to face the others at the same time, their faces exposed at night, which immediately illuminate with the light from the street lights. They kept watch over each other as the train passed between them, but as soon as the train passed, Eugene disappeared. Ae Shin looks around for a moment before walking past the crowd. She reaches the empty area, just past the crowd, and Eugene shows up again. He asks if she's looking for him, and she denies this. But Eugene's sharp instinct told him otherwise. She believes they both find each others’ secrets and asks where he lives so that she can also head in that direction. Ae Shin calls him a stranger. He seems offended by this title and asks why she would take it that way.
She explained that the locals knew him, and to prove his point, a group of pedestrians immediately recognized her and asked respectfully what she was doing alone tonight. She claims that she is waiting for his servant to complete their task. Confirming this, the waiter and his cart arrived at that time. As he boarded the cart, he asked a pedestrian to help the man go home. The strangers asked Eugene where he was headed, and he answered in English to out of his sight. Those people are tired by this foreign language and run away. On the cart, Ae Shin wonders about his identity. She thought to covered face face on the roof. If he's a friend, he'll run away from the scene, and if he's an enemy, he'll run faster.

The next morning from her hotel, Eugene thinks back to her confrontation with Ae Shin. He remembers the hanging ornaments of her clothes, and associates them with the ornaments from his mother. Eugene arrives at the US embassy, and he is approached by Im Gwan Soo. Gwan-soo does not believe that Eugene was an American until Eugene took out his passport as evidence. Gwan Soo is surprised that the Joseon man represents America, but Eugene makes it a point to correct him - he is American. Eugene asks to meet with the US ambassador, but he is at Logan Taylor's funeral. He asks to be taken to the cemetery, where he sees from afar. Gwan Soo shows all the ambassadors by country and name, as well as the two foreign ministers of Joseon's external affairs. Eugene asked how many foreigners outside Japan were in Joseon, and Gwan Soo listed numbers from Germany, France, Russia, Britain, and the United States - a total of 227. Eugene reduced one to reckon the deceased person and corrected the number to 226 .

A group of armed Japanese men invade Logan's house, and a young maid carrying a crying baby outside. The girl asks who he is, and he replies that he is the leader of those men. In a right tone, he explains that as a leader, he has to stay outside and do nothing while others do everything. It's Du Dong mae (Yoo Yeon-seok looks so cool). His men rush out and report to Dong-mae that they did not find the document. They have sent some men to follow the widow at the funeral, and now they are heading to join them
After the man leaves, Dong-mae asks if the girl is sad that her noble died, and the baby on her back starts to cry. He was amused because the baby cried as if he understood what he had just said, and the girl explained that the baby must be afraid. Dong-mae convinces her not to be afraid, because he just kills the people he can benefit from.

When Eugene and Gwan Soo watch the US ambassador talking to the widow at the funeral, Gwan Soo directs Eugene to the next task, which is an investigation into the murder. Eugene will be responsible for this, because the ambassador has many things to do. The ambassador expressed his frustration over the deaths of foreigners and called for the approval of American troops to be deployed for restoring peace to Joseon. The two foreign ministers disagreed with the request. But the king has become increasingly wise with age and asked if anyone has asserted that the killer was actually a Joseon. No confirmation, and the king reprimanded the two ministers for keeping silent on the claim that all Joseon people are mafias. The king expressed his condolences to the late American and asked the ambassador about the funeral.
Eugene was on horseback while Gwan Soo explains the streetlight celebration from the night before. The light show from 600 street lights attracts the crowd, and for sure there is a witness to the murderer. Eugene orders all the witnesses to gather at the embassy, and Gwan-soo estimates that they will get many witnesses.

Eugene watched the quiet beach, where a boat floated on the dock. He remembered the desperate pursuit of her teenage years, as he jumped into the same boat and hid under a straw mat, crying. He sat down in a small inn nearby and stared at his food. Seung Goo arrives in the same spot. The owner joins him and asks Eugene if he knows that there is chicken in his soup, because all he does is looking at the soup, not eat it. Eugene replies that he has never had this food before, but the owner does not believe it because he seems to be able to buy more. Eugene sees curious as Seung Goo devours his cock - looks and feels like a stranger.
Back at the mountain to practice shooting, Ae Shin tells Seung Goo about the person she meets on his mission to kill Logan. She assumes that this guy is a friend from a different area, but Seung Goo warns her not to believe so easily. "A friend today may not be a firend tomorrow, so do not trust anyone. Including me."
Ae Shin replies that it's been a while since she stopped trusting Seung Goo. She explained, "How can I trust someone who has no home or servant?" He tells her to go home and pretend to yawn to reassure her that he's tired. She gladly agreed and hurried away.

Eugene began his investigation by interviewing all the witnesses, but no important stories or information emerged. A waiter mentions that Ae Shin is there with Eugene, and Gwan Soo suggests that they take her for an investigation, though he does not suspect her involvement in the slightest. Eugene seemed nervous about this idea but agreed to it. Gwan Soo visits Ae Shin's home to apologize by urgently requesting her to obey the investigation, as she is seen in the streetlight. The waiter is offended that they will ask Ae Shin to do so, but Ae Shin offers to visit the embassy. She wonders who will report to see her, and her thoughts soon go to her meeting with Eugene that night - it must be him.

At the Glory Hotel’s restaurant, a man caught a passing waiter and asked how much it would cost for the night. The waiter tried to pull away and declared that he was a servant, not a prostitute, but the man found the two things identical. Another figure intervened and ordered the man to release him. The man saw this woman who intervened and agreed that she was much more desirable. The woman is not bothered by this bastard and tells him that he will not be able to have a nice woman. Then, she broke the plate and scratched his wrist to make him let go the waitress. The bastard is angry at being belittled by a woman, but his friend tries to warn him to be silence because this woman, Kudo Hina (Kim Min-jung), is the owner of the hotel. The waiter apologized and worried about the expensive broken plates, but Hina said that the waiter was more precious to him. She tells the waiter to respond more aggressively if this happens again. Hina then apologizes to all her customers.
Eugene watched the scene unfold, and Hina watched him watching from afar. She approached him and apologized in Korean. She has not met him and asked which room he stays in. When he told her, she was a bit confused because she was told that an American lived there. She was amused by his intelligence and offered to send free drinks to make up for all that commotion. Then, he stretched out his hand as a greeting between two strangers, but he handed him a handkerchief instead, seeing that he was bleeding for breaking the plate. He says that he'll take a handshake later and get out.

When Eugene leaves, Dong Mae enters the lobby and sees the new face with suspicion. He notices that Hina is injured, and she suggests that they go to the room. As she cleans the wound, he asks if she's hurt or if she hurt someone. She said she injured herself trying to help a girl, so she walked over to him saying, "Then, it looks like I should help this girl." He proceeded to take care of her wound. She asks if he finds the document he's looking for, and Dong-mae is impressed that Hina knows everything. Dong-mae asks if Logan's widow is a secret guest at this hotel, but Hina refuses to share her guest's information. With his bare hands, Dong-mae comes out and tells Hina to treat her wound well, because the scar does not fit her hand.
Ae Shin arrives at the embassy. When Gwan Soo escorts Ae Shin into the office, she sees Eugene looking out the window. She asks if he's also called for questioning, but Gwan Soo explains that he's working there - he's an American consul. Ae Shin's maid thinks he's just a translator, but Ae Shin looks determined to find out. As they enter the office, Ae Shin sits in Eugene's chair at his desk, ready for questioning. Eugene asks if she sees something and anyone weird at that night. She replies that there are many strange things in Joseon now and asks that he ask more specifically what she can see.
Her maid intervenes and says that Ae Shin is not a person who notices something strange. She claims that Ae Shin is just an innocent child. Eugene speaks in English to Gwan Soo and orders him to bring two waiters out of the room for tea while he speaks to Ae Shin. When Gwan Soo tries to escort the waiters out, the waiter worries that Ae Shin can not understand English words. But Ae Shin gaze and they obediently out of the room.

Now they are alone, Eugene cuts off the chase and describes in great detail the circumstances of the night: This is a ceremony of street lighting, so the electric noise will hide the sound of gunfire and the crowd will hide their tracks. She asks if that's why the day was chosen, and Ae Shin pretends not to know.  Ae Shin denies knowing or seeing anything. Eugene walks around the table and stops right in front of Ae Shin. He slowly raises his hand to cover the bottom of his face, and then says that he thinks he may have seen it. Ae Shin raises her hand to do the same, looks right into his eyes, and says, "If that's suspicion, then I think I see you too."
